Our globally connected world – learning from Iceland

Map of Iceland

As I have posted, Twitter is a valuable professional learning tool I have used for the past several years. Today, an example of this “just in time” learning is found in the following “tweet”, or online posting, from a leader I follow https://twitter.com/CurtRees posted a link about learning in Iceland: This links to an Icelandic educator: https://twitter.com/IngviHrannar

The educational possibilities related to this type of learning and this social media posting and to this engaged/innovative learning tool (Twitter) are numerous:ideas initially coming to mind include: international “pen pal”, idea generation and inclusion of new ideas into classrooms in the USA, STEAM connections (Science instruction, technology instruction, engineering instruction, integration of arts instruction, and mathematics instruction), web-based international professional development, research, etc.

So …. it’s not really about Iceland (though it’s pretty cool to see learning in Iceland), and it’s not really about Twitter (though it’s pretty obvious to me that Twitter flattens the world), the point of this post is engaged learning – Engaged Learning is pretty cool – and meaningful, and supported by the research to increase student learning!
