“People don’t just go to work to acquire, they go to work to become.”
– Dan Zadra

Today I had the great opportunity to visit one of our schools, Walden Elementary, where one of our awesome Library Information Specialists, Kathy Kerner (MLS) brought award winning author Dav Pilkey and award winning illustrator Dan Santat to an assembly and learning experience! Not only do I love “Captain Underpants” books (as does my son) but I truly love the inspiration that Pilkey and Santat shared through their interactive and upbeat presentations and activities. Dav Pilkey has published more than 60 books and he has dyslexia! He is living proof that ALL children can and should have the chances to SUCCEED and thrive!

In DPS109 we celebrate literacy, the arts, technology as an amplifier for change and growth and we LOVE in person demonstrations of excellence for our students. We are in many transitions and growth opportunities in DPS109 and one of our focus areas is literacy and the “library of the future”. I applaud Library Information Specialist Kathy Kerner for bringing in Dav Pilkey and Dan Santat to Engage, Inspire, and Empower our students and staff and one another. Our future depends upon literacy, libraries, library information specialists, people, and technology to support our future and the futures for our students.

Today’s presentation was an outstanding view of the past, present, and future blending together on behalf of student learning and growth. Although #ASuperDay (a national superintendent sharing on Twitter) is March 18th (and the third Wednesday of each month) I’m proud to share an example of my super day at Walden Elementary School in Deerfield. Celebrating the abilities of ALL children, the proud literacy heritage for children, young adults and adults, as well as the acknowledgement of award winning artistry as an example of what success looks like!

Through communication, relationship building, working with partners inside and outside of the organization, we can all support student growth and development. I’m proud to work for and serve a community so passionate about education, literacy, the arts, and technology as an accelerator!

ENGAGE, INSPIRE, EMPOWER!
