Michael Lubelfeld Ed.D. has served as a public school superintendent in Illinois since 2010. In addition, he has worked as an adjunct professor, advisor, and supervisor at National Louis University in the Department of Educational Leadership since 2005. A public school educator and educational leader for more than 30 years, Lubelfeld has served as an assistant superintendent, a middle school associate principal, a principal, and a middle school teacher. He has experience teaching social studies, reading, and civics. Earning his doctorate in education in curriculum and instruction allowed Lubelfeld to test theories of learning in action. He was named a 2015-2016 NSPRA Superintendent to Watch, in 2017 he was named the Lake County (IL) Superintendent of the Year. In 2021 he was the Loyola University Chicago School of Education Distinguished Alumni award recipient. He presents on leadership issues around the state and nation, and he is active in formal leadership development with state, national, and international associations. He and Nick Polyak co-authored the books The Unlearning Leader: Leading for Tomorrow’s Schools Today (2017), Student Voice: From Invisible to Invaluable (2018), with PJ Caposey, The Unfinished Leader: A School Leadership Framework for Growth & Development (2021), with PJ Caposey, the 2024 book The Unfinished Teacher: Becoming the Next Version of Yourself, also with Caposey. Their 2025 book Leading for Tomorrow’s Schools Today will be out in spring of 2025((Rowman-Littlefield Publishers). Mike and his wife Stephanie live in suburban Chicago, and they have two children.
